WOOLDREAMERS

They say that when you find your calling, you begin by dreaming about it, and in effect, that’s exactly what happened to a boy called Ramón, whose passion for fibres was kindled by his father. That boy has now been working in the textile industry for half his life and, together with his brother-in-law, Oscár, has become the driving force behind Wooldreamers.

Ramón’s dream was, and is, a vision of natural fibres— especially wool; of shepherds and ranchers; of happy, pampered sheep, of a public aware that there is no better way to fight micro-plastic pollution and climate change than by using 100% biodegradable materials.

The realisation of Wooldreamers was shaped by the standards Ramón and Oscár wanted to see in the textile industry, in Spain and across the world. Spanish wool, historically a treasured fibre, is commonly treated as waste, considered unprofitable in the current wool market and, where wool is available, Spanish wools are often supplanted by imported fibres.

Wooldreamers prioritises sourcing fibres cultivated with compassion for both animals and land, building relationships with ranchers, and sharing their vision for the future of heritage wools in Spain. They keep their production chain short; all Wooldreamers’ yarns are produced with traceable wools in their own Okeo-tex certified mill. They handle every step in their production process, from sorting and washing the wool, to carding and spinning the roving, dyeing, and packaging the yarns.

For Ramón and Oscár, knowing the origin of the wool deepens their understanding and connection with the material, while ensuring sheep are given a good quality of life.
On Wednesday 14 December 2022, Beatrice Bonanno, who represents Wooldreamers in the US, will join a SELVEDGE panel talk on all matters woollen. Do join us.
