Privacy Policy
At Selvedge, we ensure that any data we hold is safe. We never share your email addresses with third parties unless it is to fulfil a contract or legal obligation. We will use your address only to notify you about activities related to Selvedge Magazine. Third parties (such as AdRoll) may place cookies on your browsers for targeted advertising. The site will collect the following types of data: IP addresses, cookie identifiers, and website activity. For instructions on how to opt out of receiving targeted advertising, please visit www.aboutads.info networkadvertising.org/choices or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe only).
The law on data protection set out several different reasons (lawful bases) for which a company may collect and process your data, including:
Consent
In specific situations, we can collect and process your data with your consent, for example, when you subscribe to receive newsletters or information about our events.
Contract
In certain circumstances, we need your personal data to comply with our contractual obligation; for example, if you order an item from us for postal delivery, we will collect your address details to deliver your purchase. We would pass these on to our courier or to an artisan if your order were to be fulfilled by a particular artisan. Subscription contracts will be fulfilled by Selvedge Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under registered number 04953181 and managed by PayWhirl, a subscription app that we use to manage recurring payments and subscriptions. You can read Paywhirl’s privacy policy here. It is important that customers read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing a subscription here. Selvedge provides a platform for buyers to discover and purchase unique goods from sellers around the world. It is not a part of any transaction when an artisan order is placed with us. By shopping for artisan goods, you understand that you are not buying directly from Selvedge but from an artisan; thus, your contract is with the artisan. You can read more about our Artisan Product Policy here.
Legal obligation
If the law requires us to, we may need to collect and process your data for example, we can pass on details of people involved in fraud or other criminal activity affecting Selvedge to law enforcement.
Legitimate interests
In specific situations, we use your data to pursue our legitimate interests in a way which might reasonably be expected as part of running our business, and which does not materially impact your rights, freedom or interests, for example, we may use your purchase history or specified interests to send you or make available personalised offers, or may also use your email address to send you direct marketing information, telling you about products and events that we think might interest you. We will always include the option to unsubscribe from these marketing emails, or you can contact us directly to be unsubscribed from these types of emails.
When do we collect your personal data?
We use the above lawful bases when collecting your data: consent (such as when you subscribe to one of our newsletters), contract (when you transact or enter into a contract with us for example when you become a subscriber to the magazine), legal obligation (when data use is required by law) and legitimate interests (such as when we make personalised offers available to you).

Our website store is hosted on Shopify Inc. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you. Your data is stored through Shopify’s data storage, databases and the general Shopify application. They store your data on a secure server behind a firewall. If you choose a direct payment gateway to complete your purchase, then Shopify stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted. If you have a recurring subscription, your card details will be stored to process the recurring payment. All direct payment gateways adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
