The Selvedge 12 Days of Christmas 2020 competitions are open! From 1 – 12 December you can enter to win each and every one of our 12 prizes by visiting our competition page. Every day while entries are open we will look at each prize in more detail. Today it’s the vintage rug sourced by Larusi. Larusi tribal rugs and textiles was set up by Souad Larusi in 2000, specialising in the weavings of the Berber tribes of Morocco to bring them to a wider audience and to encourage their use for interior decoration; the rugs, although of humble provenance, are crafted from excellent quality wool, with subtly variegated designs that look uncannily modern to contemporary eyes.

In September, Souad hosted an exhibition at her London showroom, Shades of Morocco, inspired by a longing for the warmth and vibrancy of her home country. Until recently, Larusi spent much of her time travelling between London and Morocco, sourcing rare and unique rugs, throws and wall-hangings. The idea for the Shades of Morocco collection came from the deep-yellow hues of one of Souad’s favourite rugs from the Azilal region in the Middle Atlas Mountains, which has been part of her personal collection for 15 years. “I wanted to share its beauty with people,” she says. “So I used this rug as the starting point and built the palette around it, adding in earthy pinks and deep rose tones, as well as ecru, sandy browns and darker accents.” You can still purchase items from the collection online at www.larusi.com, including rugs, wall-hangings, table and bed linen and accessories.
We have one vintage rug sourced by Larusi to give away (pictured immediately above). It is 85 x 145cm made from recycled yarn and in very good condition. For more information visit www.larusi.com
