12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: MAIJA ESKO

Maija Esko is a textile artist and teacher, whose painted art textiles are stories— horizontal stripes are landscapes of her neighbourhood, the layers of the colours are traces of her social and emotional environment. For Maija, the process of painting is a conversation, a dialogue with nature, with people, and with other animals:
“It’s like hearing the voice of the freezing lake in wintertime, feeling the wind in the corners of the old house, listening to the fire in the stove and being aware of the sound of the darkness in the forest.”

For SELVEDGE, Maija is offering on of her ‘art textiles for daily use’, called Friend. As Maija explains, this textile can be used as a tablecloth, a curtain, a bedrunner, and more.
