Today is France's 'La Fête Nationale' or Bastille day to us. Every year, since the storming of the Bastille on July 14th 1798, France has commemorated its liberation from Louis XVI's oppressive monarchy.
The French Revolution – Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette's beheadings, the rise of Napoleon and the subsequent French republic – is a hugely significant point in European history. The period and context also remain an extremely rich source of fashion inspiration and reference, see our cover story in issue 62 of Selvedge (Thread) . However politically misguided or ill fated she was, it is hard not appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship and design that went into decorating Marie Antoinette's famously fashion conscious life.

Great Bastille Day fashion. I love the colors and the tulle.
I am relieved by the news of a reduced subscription as it is not easy to manage on a pension – along with the occasional taxi, this is my luxury.
love the fashion and painted background!!!
I love the fashion portrait with the painted background.
