Art in a Time of Austerity
Lyons Teashops were a cultural institution in more ways than one. The company's innovations included 24 hour opening and eye catching window displays but in the post-war period keeping up appearances proved difficult. Lyon & Co's solution was to commission three series of lithographs from Britain’s most popular artists – including Edward Bawden, John Piper and John Nash. The Lyons Teashops Lithographs, an exhibition at Towner, Eastbourne from 13th July-22 September, explores how great art overcame austerity.
