Horst: Photographer of Style
"A master of light, composition and atmospheric illusion" Horst P Horst's illustrious, and surprisingly varied, photographic career is given all due credit in the V&A's latest exhibition. Horst: Photographer of Style covers everything from early shots of Society girls to Surrealist still lifes, scenery from his travels in the Middle East, Hollywood stars and even quiet studies of patterns found in nature. Nudes and interiors have their place too but it is the room filled with glorious colour prints from the Condé Nast archive, and a glass case containing more than 90 Vogue covers, that drive home the innovations made by this founding father of fashion photography. The show opens this Saturday and a full review will appear in Selvedge Issue 61. And as you "exit through the gift shop" pick up the current copy of Selvedge. 6 September 2014-4 January 2015 at the V&A.
