Indigo un périple bleu
Indigo has always been a subject in high regard at Selvedge so if you are in Paris we’d highly recommend a trip to the INDIGO exhibition, held at the Bibliothèque Forney. The exhibition, curated by Catherine LeGrand (author of Indigo: The Color that Changed the World and creator of Parisian boutique La Bonne Fame), includes 300 pieces from her personal collection.
As you walk through the doors of the library you’ll be immersed in a sea of blue, from the blue shaded umbrellas going up the stairs to the large blue poster advertising the exhibition. With indigo-dyed pieces from all around the world the first stop is Europe where indigo has been used for over 4000 years. The exhibition continues through Japan, America, China, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. You’ll find kimonos, a berry blouse, a dogon loincloth, ancient fabrics with patterns made by both shibori and ikat to name a few, all sharing the colour of indigo.
Visit at 3pm on Saturday and you can enjoy a guided tour (in French).
And if you have the indigo bug, why not start your own collection… Armel Chichery, Amit Zadok and Catherine Legrand are hosting a 4 day sale where you can find and purchase their indigo treasures… 6 rue Elzéir, 75003, Paris, 9-12 April, Thurs 5-8, Fri-Sun 11-8, lisieresassociation@gmail.com
