Portrait by Thirza Schaap.
The famous Dutch trend forecaster (and publisher, humanitarian, educator and exhibition curator) Lidewij Edelkoort, will be delivering her next trend presentation in London on 5th December. The Green Wave UK trend presentations for Spring/Summer 2021 are compiled by Trend Union, an association of designers and stylists in different sectors of the fashion and interiors industry, formed by Li (Lidewij) in June 1986.

Talking about the title of the presentations, which will look at colours and trends for the upcoming season, Li explains: “With the ecological green also comes an aesthetic green, since brown is symbolic for the earth it is only natural that green will start to grow from that current. The need for green is so powerful that it will turn around fashion and design without any doubt, sprouting from different political, humanistic and survivalist sources it is impossible to ignore.”

Recently, Li’s work has evolved into the realms of education at the Design Academy Eindhoven where she was Chairwoman from 1999 to 2008, humanitarianism within the Heartwear craft foundation she co-founded in 1993, and curatorial work at museums around the world. In 2008, the French Ministry of Culture honoured her as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and the Dutch Royal Family named her a Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau.
In September, Li was interviewed by Mary Portas for On Style, a BBC Radio 4 documentary series: “She talks to Mary about the reasons behind the one forecast she's made that the fashion world hasn't wanted to hear - Fashion is dead. However it's not all bad news as she shares her thoughts about the trends she thinks will be influencing what we'll be wearing in the very near future.” Visit BBC Sounds to listen to the episode.
