MEET THE MAKER: IOANA CORDUNEANU OF SEMNE CUSUTE
This is a first in a series of Meet the Maker sessions that will give you a chance to meet makers in a more intimate setting and learn more about textile makers and designers who run workshops with us. Makers' will give a range of talks, demonstrations and Q&A sessions in a more informal meeting setting.
To begin this new initiative we will be joined by Ioana Corduneanu who began Semne Cusute (Sewn Signs) in 2012 to preserve, promote and educate about the craft and history of the Romanian blouse. A traditional Romanian shirt is a masterpiece of collective design. The concept and principles it follows make it a lesson in design thinking and a real life applicable zero waste project. There is no fixed standard layout, no strict measurements — only design principles which we can apply to every body type and fabric.
In this Meet the Maker, Ioana Corduneanu will give a talk on the history and craft of creating a Romanian Blouse from the ASTRA National Museum in Romania.
The talk will also introduce you to her workshop, Hand-stitch a Romanian Blouse, which will be held on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August 2022. There will be a Q&A after her talk which will give you a chance to ask questions about her practice, the history of the Romanian Blouse and to understand more about what you could learn at her upcoming workshop.
Meet Ioana Corduneanu on Saturday 25 June at 13:00 - 14:00 BST (British Summer Time). The event will be hosted online on Zoom in a Zoom meeting setting where attendees can meet and ask questions 'face to face.
