Selvedge New Year's Resolutions

With 2021 quickly approaching, the Selvedge staff members each shared their New Years resolution - and as you might expect, they all have something to do with textiles...
Polly, Founder & Editor of Selvedge
Make, mend and move - I will be starting with a cushion for my window seat.
Minna, Subscriptions
I love to forage for different plants and recipes to naturally dye cloth. Recently having learned how to spin wool, I would like to practise my new skill and make a tapestry with wool that I have spun & dyed myself.
Ronja, Special Projects
I love shopping for clothes, and even though I already purchase most of my clothing second hand this year I will challenge myself to buy at least 50% less and instead use the items I already own; unless something gets damaged beyond repair.
Pamela, Brand Consultant
Perfect my slow stitching skills!
Kate, Blog Editor
I have a few Japanese sewing books that I haven’t made anything from yet. So, my resolution is to start by making something from Asuka Hamada’s Big Clothes Small Clothes. On Instagram in January there is a #SewJapaneseInJanuary challenge hosted by @bloglessanna and @craftyjane_makes, so it’s the perfect time to do it.
More on the challenge:
Laura, Features Editor
Inspired by the upcoming workshop by knitwear designer Flora Collingwood-Norris I plan to embrace the fine art of repair - darning socks and stitching buttons back on while I listen to a play on the radio.
Hester, Customer Service
I have taken a couple of online courses this year including Craft School Oz textiles baskets, and have just signed up for a Willa Wanders textile journals course so I’m really looking forward to learning and practising new skills.
Catherine, Events Director
Having studied woven textiles at university and spending many (sometimes too many) hours weaving and stitching, I haven’t set myself a textile project and my tools remain untouched in my sewing box. Like many, the pandemic has reminded me of the importance of making and creating. I don’t have anything particular in mind, I just want to create. Knitting, stitching, crochet and handweaving - my sewing box awaits.
