TIMELESS HANDWEAVINGS

Drawing on early lessons from her mother and grandmother, Kate Kilmurray's affinity for making is steeped in values of the handmade and in an appreciation for form.
Kate has run multiple arts and wellness businesses, each in proximity to her yoga practice and teaching of over three decades. She uses this foundation in her craft of hand-weaving: both as a creative act and practice of embodied meditation, inspired by nature, emphasising the importance of process rather than outcome.

Kate’s creativity is embedded with community - from the scattering of her weavings around the world, to her teaching practice - bringing together circles of women in her studio and online. Creating solace, forging belonging and eschewing the worries of the day.

Central to her weavings are the re-use and upcycling techniques of hand-weaving using everyday items of clothing such as socks. In collaboration with Selvedge, Kate will run an online workshop on re-weaving old socks, Save Your Socks!, using a simple but effective frame loom. To find out more about Kate Kilmurray and her textile practice, join her Meet the Maker on Saturday 13 August 2022.
