India, Maku Textiles, Columba dress
Classic, full sleeves, mid-calf length, round neck, hand-quilted dress with inverted box pleats in the front and back and a long buttoned placket opening in front, finished with a silver button. The hand quilting lends a beautiful texture to the fabric.
Maku’s designs are contextual to community, practices and individual skill sets. The fabric is handwoven in the villages of West Bengal (India) by the traditional silk weavers. It is fully hand quilted by the women embroiderers who use traditional kantha quilting as a means of preserving textiles.
This garment is hand dyed in a natural indigo vat with several dips to get this rich deep shade of indigo. ‘Maku’ is dedicated to promote natural indigo blue, as a colour of sustenance and a statement towards better future.
