A Reversible Jacket and a Shirtdress
SumiMelurai is an ensemble designed as such that it follows the principle of minimum waste pattern making, It is a classic cut that adds to your conscious wardrobe; made of handwoven cotton fabric and is 100% handstitched. We want our artisan to enjoy working, and to be independent artist rather than just following designers' instructions. We we are taking this chance at Selvedge World Fair, 2020, by making artisans design their own products. We will share some profit with them on top of their daily wages which in the end will inspire them to explore more deigns. Sumi Ben is one of our most intuitive artisans, as a sample maker she always has been a (indirectly or directly) part of design process. For Selvedge World Fair she came up with two designs one of which was a reversible jacket with irregular tikdi. It is a four layer jacket, one side of which is of colorful yardage made of various fabric remnants and other side has positive applique of tikdi; done with the smallest of remnants. We have paired the jacket with Aishirtdress, made of handwoven kota cotton checks with intricate faant surface. The ensemble is made for order but as it is completely handstitiched and upcycled their will be slight variations in the terms of color and fabric from the one in picture and the one ordered.
