Gallery 196
As the owner and buyer at Gallery 196, Sue Richardson is dedicated to sourcing authentic textiles and artefacts that celebrate the artistry, integrity, and often the playful spirit of the artisan. With over 30 years of experience, beginning as a weaving professional in India, Sue continues to draw inspiration from the rich cultural identity of this ever-evolving continent. Through the lasting friendships and connections she has cultivated over time, she holds deep admiration for the craftsmanship and ingenuity of the people she works with.
While traditional craftsmanship may be in decline, a new generation of designers is emerging, reinterpreting indigenous skills in innovative ways. Sue’s extensive industry experience has also led her to work as a lecturer and consultant in India, Egypt, and the UK. She remains passionate about mentoring and supporting new enterprises, ensuring that these valuable craft traditions are preserved and thrive for future generations.
