Description (story of the item): This dupatta was embroidered by artisans Shahnaaz, Reshma, Azra and Sana in April 2020 in our karkhana (chikan centre) in the rural outskirts of Lucknow. Pure cotton thread dyed into kora (unbleached thread) colour has been used for embroidery. The Jaali (pulled thread work) was made by artist Haseen Jehan,who is a third generation artist, trained by her mother Afsana ,who in turn has learned the craft from her own mother. Thus passing the traditional craft technique from one generation to the next . Afsana is a highly skilled craftswoman responsible for training hundreds of girls in chikankari at the Craft Council Center Lucknow, established in 1986 to empower women artisans.This dupatta took five months to embroider.
Materials: This is a natural tussar silk dupatta handwoven in Bhagalpur in Bihar state; with mulberry silk warp and kosa silk yarn in the weft. The silk fibre is sourced from silk producing farms. The fringes at the end add a finishing to the product.
