Madagascar, Tahiana Creation, Basket Weaving
Tahiana Creation combines traditional weaving techniques with modern aesthetics to create baskets, rugs, and other household items for daily use. After much research and experimentation with getting dyes from leaves, bark, and stones, they can create nearly 40 bold colors from natural resources.
Weaving and basketry is the foundation of daily life and culture for Marie, a master basket weaver at Tahiana Creation. Baskets are used for transportation and storage of food, and are food safe because of the natural materials and dyes. The core element of this art is the vetiver grass, which is grown and harvested for basket weaving. It has a natural sweet smell that is carefully preserved in every finished basket.
