Description (story of the item): This beautiful indigo huipil features bold Mixtec designs in red ‘cochinilla’ derived from beetles that grow on the nopal cactus, and the rare ‘tixinda thread. Read from top to bottom the huipil features a row of mountain corn, followed by the ‘guajalote bicefalo’ –the Yin and Yang of the Mixtec people, followed by a star design representing a woman who died in child birth, the S fertility symbol so she can have another baby, and ending with mountains. Each huipil tells a story and no two are exactly alike!
