Refold by Alexandra Hagen
Alexandra Hagen of Refold is a textile artist specialising in botanical dyes and the Japanese resist techniques of Shibori (stitch resist) and Katazome (paste resist). Her work features abstract patterns, with an emphasis on the rhythm of lines and grids, and the repetition of elements that are similar yet never identical. The concept of Ma, a Japanese term for interval or empty space, significantly influences her work. She is captivated by the relationship between pattern and empty space, and the transition from dark to light.
Her motto, "SLOW SUSTAINABLE HANDMADE," reflects her commitment to time-consuming, meticulous processes. She oversees each piece from conception to completion. Wherever possible, she uses organic and/or GOTS-certified fabrics, with a preference for linen, hemp, ramie, and a hemp-cotton mix, and also incorporates vintage and antique fabrics.
Through the slow and thoughtful production of her textiles, she hopes to inspire people to value and cherish them for years to come.
