On Saturday 21 September 2024, the team behind the cult magazine Selvedge will bring a curated collection of thirty merchants and makers to the 18th-century stable yard at the American Museum & Gardens in Bath. Our traders will present a range of rare vintage fabrics, covetable haberdashery, and skillfully hand-made textile treasures. The fair offers the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends and pick up something special.
Claverton Manor, home to the American Museum & Gardens, is a Georgian mansion built in the 1820s, constructed of Bath Stone and featuring beautiful neoclassical details. The American Museum & Gardens houses over 12,000 objects, which showcase the finest examples of American decorative arts, along with quilts and American folk art, which are recognised as some of the most significant in Europe and are the equal of many premier collections in the United States. The Museum is also home to Dallas Pratt’s map collection, one of the world's greatest collections of Renaissance maps.
The quilt and rag rug collections are most notable, comprising over 250 quilts and 200 rag rugs. These beautiful textiles offer a fascinating insight into American folk art and the lives of the people who created them.
Why not make a day of it and enjoy lunch or afternoon tea at the American Garden Deli? With panoramic views over the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the deli offers a range of homemade American-inspired food using, wherever possible, produce grown in the gardens designed by American landscape architects Oehme van Sweden.
