UK, Edinburgh, Fruitmarket Bookshop
Fruitmarket Bookshop, part of Fruitmarket, a free, public space for culture in the heart of Edinburgh, is Scotland's leading contemporary culture bookshop. The gallery and shop brings together two former market buildings: to the west, a structure built in 1889, but only recently added to Fruitmarket’s footprint by Reiach and Hall Architects; to the east a former fruit and vegetable market built in 1938, converted into a gallery in the 1970s by John L Patterson.
The bookshop offers up a considered slice of the constantly shifting elements of contemporary culture. These moving pieces, (language, norms, politics, art, and values) are integral parts of how we connect to and think about the world, and influence how people conceive of concepts and objects - a major part of how art works. Fruitmarket Bookshop aims to create an experiential space for you to discover a new book that sits in contemporary culture and art thoughtfully.
