Nicola Kurtz is the creative force behind Woodland Threads, where she combines eco-printing (using leaf imprints), natural dyes sourced from vegetables and insects, and fabric folding techniques such as shibori itajime. A former photojournalist, Nicola is captivated by the unpredictable lines and tones that leaves leave behind on silk and cashmere. Her fascination with patterns inspired her to incorporate traditional fabric folding techniques from various cultures into her dyeing process, along with a few innovative folds of her own. She finds great joy in the flexibility of natural dyes, which create jewel-like colours and tonal variations.
